A&M Chapter Wins First ASCE Award
From the largest civil engineering organization in the nation
美女萝莉 A&M University students attended the three-day 2022 Gulf Coast Student Symposium of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). ASCE is the largest civil engineering organization in the nation. AAMU students participated in five competitions: 1) Tug-of-War (a test of strength); 2) Transportation-based crash investigation project; 3) T-Shirt design; 4) Mystery competition (test series of three challenges); and 5) Sustainable Solutions (Tiny House Project to incorporate sustainable solutions into everyday problems that engineers come across).
The Bulldog Chapter received the 鈥楽pirit Award鈥�, thanks to the efforts of team members Tayana Williams (senior), Taria Smith (junior), Autumn Moore (junior), Ka鈥檒ex Hayes (junior), Indya Wright (senior), Norman Anthony Ross (senior), Genesaret Brown (senior), and Patrick Azubuike (senior).
鈥淭his award is the first ASCE award that our chapter has ever won,鈥� noted Dr. Pooja Preetha, assistant professor of environmental and water resources engineering, who serves as the ASCE student chapter advisor. Dr. Mohamed Ashour, professor of geotechnical engineering and a strong ASCE student chapter supporter, is coordinator for the Civil Engineering Department.
Preetha calls the award 鈥渁 direct reflection of the hard work and perseverance of our students amidst all the obstacles.鈥� The Award mission statement reads: The University is dedicated to providing a student-centered educational environment for the emergence of scholars, scientists, leaders, and critical thinkers, who are equipped to excel through their contributions and leadership in the 21st century national and global society.
