A&M Students Garner First Place in AABE Hackathon
A team of 美女萝莉 A&M University computer science students have gained recognition through yet another major competition.
A group of students representing the College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Sciences won first place in the 美女萝莉 Power/Southern Nuclear Hackathon hosted by the American Association of Blacks in Energy on Thursday, October 20.
Students developed a pitch to solve a problem statement related to achieving a healthier life style in communities of color negatively impacted by such problems as climate change, food insecurity and other issues.
The AAMU team developed a solution tackling a more specific aspect of the problem that honed in on the 鈥淏lack residents in Lowndes County, Ala.,鈥� where there is 鈥渓ittle to no access to a municipal sewage system鈥� or 鈥渇unctional septic systems.鈥�
The students鈥� solution focused on a reduction in toxicity, smell and overall sewage by reducing the number of pathogenic organisms and chlorinating the liquid part of the sewage using their proposed prototype, Sewage Cleansing and Reduction System (the SCRS).
The computer science team members included: Asa Rogers, junior; Da鈥橯uandalon Daniel, sophomore; DeTavein Walker, sophomore; Eyerusalem Girma, sophomore; and Lyric Sampson, sophomore.
